For the city of Santa Monica, this is a proposal called "Quilted Layers", which is a densely quilted artificial landscape. The logic behind the geometry comes from 2D, 3D and shadow play of botanical forms imbedded into silhouettes on the ground. The silhouettes on the ground. The silhouettes objectify the legibility of the botanical figures, making them semi-legible, where at times you can recognize the form, but it gets lost very soon. Flattening the legibility of the photo through the shadow was a tool to make our composition. Compositions are nested at different scales and constructed in a non-rigid way parallel to the nature of the park. The figures are constructed in a seemingly unconstructed manner to emphasis the nature of a park. The ultimate goal of the figures is to demark and give spatial recognition to the garden which navigates through different activities through the ground plane.
